One of the more encouraging aspects of the food reform movement is the latest push by urban planners and city dwellers to save neighborhoods from neglect through community gardening. People are realizing that greenspace and the environmental services that plants provide can be just as important to the overall health of a metropolis as its infrastructure.10 inspiring urban gardens

RIOT DON’T DIET: Facts About Children in Afghanistan

torevolution:

    • Afghanistan’s infant and under-five mortality rates are among the highest in the world.
    • 20% of children die before their first birthday, mostly from preventable diseases; such Diarrhea, respiratory infections, malaria and malnutrition.
    • There are an estimated 8,000 child soldiers in the country.
    • There is a large gender gap in school enrollment; in many provinces, girls rarely attend school at all.
    • Child kidnapping and trafficking are common in the northern and northeastern regions of the country. Many children are seized for their income-generating abilities.
    • 1 out of every 3 child (over 1 million children) have lost one or both parents;
    • 50% of children suffer from chronic malnutrition;
    • About half the 200,000 landmine victims are children; Afghanistan is one of the most heavily mined countries in the world (over 7 million landmines);
    • More than 66% children have witnessed a violent death; after decades of exposure to violence many children suffer from psychosocial trauma.

    This is so important. Please do share if you care. You don’t have to be a parent to hear a child’s plea. You don’t have to be Afghani to feel their pain. This is a cause of humanity, and if you have a heart like mine, you’ll realise it’s often the children in this corrupt world that have to tolerate the most. Is that fair? Does the girl in the picture deserve to have a life of pain?

Armaments, universal debt, and planned obsolescence - those are the three pillars of Western prosperity. If war, waste, and moneylenders were abolished, you’d collapse. And while you people are overconsuming the rest of the world sinks more and more deeply into chronic disaster.
